Rudder conversion instructions Starting position = unfolded
The folding rudder is folded in as standard and is unfolded by pulling on the rope. This is the right conversion instruction for you if you want the rudder to be unfolded in the starting position.
There are 2 ways to tension the rudder
1st starting position = folded in
2nd starting position = folded out
First remove the safety split pin. To do this, the wire must be straightened using pliers.
The split pin can now be pulled out.
Then remove the tension lock. The fastener holds the spring and is therefore under tension. Hold it firmly, pull it out a little and turn it until you no longer feel any tension.
Pull the lock out completely. You can now remove the rudder from the holder.
Remove the tension spring and turn it 180° to tension the rudder in the other direction later.
The blue arrow indicates the direction in which the spring is tensioned. It must wind up when turning. This direction is correct if the rudder is to be folded out in the starting position.
For comparison, this direction is correct if the rudder is to be in the initial folded position.
Now you can put the rudder back into the holder. Make sure that the rope runs along the upper side of the rudder.
Now you can put the tension lock back through the hole. The recesses next to the hole hold the tension fastener in position.
The end of the spring must be inserted into the slot of the tension lock.
Now set the rudder to the desired starting position, in this case position 2 = unfolded.
Tension the spring by half a turn. To do this, pull the tension lock out of the hole a little, turn it and insert it firmly again. It must be locked in place by the recesses and no longer be able to turn on its own.
Finally, simply reinsert the locking pin and bend it open with the pliers. The conversion is now complete.
The rudder is now folded in by pulling the rope and can be secured as usual to the holder on the seat. For transportation, the rope on the seat can be released and the oar secured to the kayak with the rubber rope.
